Supper Inn

Could it be the forces of nature that compels me to only ever eat here in the wee hours of the morning? I guess it’s called Supper Inn for a reason. Open til 2:30am, it’s like a secret night club, tucked away at the end of an alleyway off Chinatown. Come 12:30am, the line resembles that outside a Wiggles show. Once inside this retro Chinese restaurant, which looks like both the fittings and crockery have been there since the 1970s, you’re in for a treat. The food is insanely rich and flavoursome, perfect to revive those tastebuds you’ve just destroyed after consuming 5 beers, 2 bourbon and cokes, 3 gin and tonics, and a Cosmo. The eggplant with pork mince and prawn is stewed down to a creamy texture, the suckling fatty pig hotpot with bean curd has plenty of ginger, garlic, spring onion power, the sweet and sour pork is a great salute to a western classic, oh so tangy, whilst the sliced pork and bean curd on rice is a favourite. This place is an institution and a chef’s late night favourite. You’ll leave, if you’re still tipsy, pointing your fingers like a gun slinger, cheerfully singing “Hot Potato Hot Potato…”

3 / 5 yums!
